Smartphone checklists can help you with organisation, daily shopping or any other kind of chore — and they’re very easy to set up whether you’ve got an Android phone or an iPhone. Here’s how.
How Do I? covers the basics, because we’ve all got to start somewhere.
How to create a smartphone checklist on an iPhone
- Open the Notes app on your iPhone
- Tap on the list icon (second from the left in the icon row above the standard iOS keyboard)
- Type in your list items in your new note, hitting return after each one
- Tap “Done” when you’ve completed your list
- Tap on each note item to mark it as completed when done
- That’s it!
How to create a smartphone checklist on an Android phone
This can get a little more complicated because some Android phone makers will include a notes or checklist app as part of the little suite of apps they include with specific handsets. My demonstration in the video above is with Google Keep; while that’s not installed on every Android phone the way that Notes is on every iPhone, it’s easy to get from the Google Play store and should be available for every Android phone, even on older versions or slower budget handsets.

- Install Google Keep from the Google Play store if it’s not already installed on your device
- Open Google Keep
- Tap on the Plus (“+”) symbol and choose list
- Type in your list items in your new note, hitting return after each one
- Mark them off when done; Google keep will drop them down the list and put a strike through each one!
There are of course loads of smartphone checklist apps available for iPhone or Android users out there, and I’m not specifically advocating for these two for any other reason than that they’re free — and in the case of iPhone and some Android users, they may already be sitting on your device already anyway, so there’s really nothing else to install!
