The Jabra Speak2 75 is overkill for working from home for most users, but it does work very well as a speakerphone for larger business purposes.

Ethical disclaimer: The Jabra Speak2 75 Speakerphones used in this review were sent to me by Jabra and they have indicated to me that they are not asking for their return.  As always this has no effect on my review and Jabra has no input into my editorial process. Which you probably already know if you’ve read anything else here, but I do feel that disclosure of this type is important upfront. For more on ART’s ethics policies, click here.
Design
The Jabra Speak2 75 Speakerphone is a round speaker – well, actually, it’s a speakerphone, because this is a business device primarily designed for use in medium to large meeting rooms, though Jabra also pitches it as a potentially ideal companion for mobile and WFH use. It’s in that latter situation that I’ve tested it out, because it’s not as though ART is quite large enough to require its own large-scale meeting room.
Well, at least not yet. There’s room to grow, you know?
The Jabra Speak2 75 Speakerphone is a simple round speaker with touch sensitive buttons on the face and a ring around the edge that lights up as you adjust volume, which can be done either from the direct volume controls on the speaker, or from your paired device. It’s a simple enough visual reminder of where your volume sits, and it works quite well.
At 466g it isn’t super heavy, but it is technically portable, with support for either direct USB connectivity or Bluetooth, either via a device’s native Bluetooth connection, or via a USB A Bluetooth adaptor provided in the box.
In all honesty, I missed that the adaptor was in the box when unpacking it; it sits within the slender provided case in the box  and could rather easily be not only missed but also lost.
Then again, in the kinds of business environments likely to adopt this kind of solution, it feels somewhat likely that Bluetooth might now be on just about every device likely to want to pair with it anyway.
On the USB side, it has an integrated USB cable with a dual head covering both USB-C and USB-A connectivity.
I love the fact that it’ll connect both ways as needed, though I’m less of a fan of fixed cables on any device, because if the cable frays or breaks, there’s no way to charge it up and it loses all but its direct Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity options. A removable cable would be just that bit more flexible for long term usage.
The Jabra Speak2 75 is also IP64 rated for water and dust resistance, and at first I was a touch bemused by this; who’s having poolside meetings, exactly?
I guess the idea here is that it makes it suitable for working in more remote or perilous locations such as some mine sites without automatically figuring that the dust and grime in the air would kill your pricey speakerphone.
Performance
Pairing up the Jabra Speak2 75 is a simple enough process that follows exactly the conventions you might expect for such a device; if you’re using the direct USB connection then it’s a simple plug and play affair, and pairing involves holding down the Bluetooth button until the speaker informs you to pair using your device’s Bluetooth menu.
You could just simply use it from there, though Jabra recommends also installing its Jabra Direct app (PC/Mac) or Jabra Sound+ (iOS/Android) apps to enable a host of additional features and firmware updates.
There’s actually quite a few features that are by default disabled, including the ability to have a coloured ring show the quality of audio pickup while in a call or disabling re-paring to a device automatically – kind of handy if you don’t want your personal phone to pair back to it and broadcast your private calls to a meeting room.
One interesting newer firmware update feature is the ability to pair two Jabra Speak2 75 units together.
Obviously that involves additional cost, but it opens up either a much wider audio capture space for larger meeting rooms or similar spaces, or actual stereo output if you’re just using them for music playback, though not for calls.
Jabra sent me two of the Jabra Speak2 75 units to test this out, but it’ll only work if both units are updated to the latest firmware. Neither was out of the box, so it’s likely that any retail stock would be similar.
It will default to mono when used for calls to aid in capturing voice specifically from its four microphones, and that doesn’t change even when two units are paired together.
I’ve been testing it out over the past couple of weeks in a variety of meeting setups, including Google Meets, Microsoft Teams and Cisco Webex without too many complains from those on the other end of the call, outside of the fact that during some of this period I had a pretty rough cold that threw my voice out.
That’s not the fault of the Jabra Speak2 75; indeed it’s arguably to its credit that its noise cancellation masked a little of my more rough breath and presented just my voice in that precise situation.
As an output speaker, the Jabra Speak2 75 is rather obviously tuned for voice too; you wouldn’t mistake it standalone as a quality music speaker. Putting it head to head with the Beats Pill as I did was, frankly, an unfair test because it’s not what the Jabra is for, really.
With two units paired it was much more of an audio fight, especially as the nature of having two actual stereo speakers you can place some distance from each other gives you much more distinct stereo separation.
Then again, two of the Jabra Speak2 75 is a rather expensive way to just get stereo audio. It’s best to think of the Jabra Speak2 75 as being good for other audio in a pinch, but not something you’d use for professional presentation.
The whole point of this kind of device is that you’re going to throw it in the middle of a meeting room desk and have multiple participants talk at it.
Ad hoc testing that way showed good pickup, though again I was somewhat limited in terms of the number of participants I could personally fit into my test space.
Moving away from the Jabra Speak2 75 did naturally enough drop spoken volume, but pickup remained decent enough to be heard while testing.
I should note that while the feature to have audio quality measured visually with a coloured ring was enabled on the Jabra Speak2 75, I never actually managed to get it to present as anything but a perfect green circle. I doubt I have a perfect voice, but maybe that’s something better experienced in a really noisy meeting situation – it’s honestly not at all clear to me.
When connected via USB the Jabra Speak2 75 will simply take charge and recharge its internal 4,700mAh battery as it goes, but it is capable of acting as a standalone Bluetooth speaker as needed.
Jabra rates it as good for up to 32 hours of talk time, which is very clearly a meeting that should have been an email AND a meal break or two… but I digress.
My own testing suggests that it’s certainly capable of lengthy usage, though my own mixed use of it as both speakerphone and speaker did run the battery down a little faster than most units are likely to be utilised.
Jabra Speak2 75: Alex’s Verdict
The Jabra Speak2 75 is a business product – Jabra exited the consumer market last year – and for that space it’s well suited to those businesses that have needs that incorporate regular remote meetings where audio from multiple participants is a desirable matter.
I’ve certainly sat in more than a few of those kinds of meetings over the years, even if ART doesn’t have a separate meeting room right now that would require this kind of device, and something like the Jabra Speak2 75 would have been quite handy for some of those calls!
That being said, at the working from home level purely, it’s essentially overkill, especially at its asking price – but then for most WFH candidates you’re talking a single participant’s audio anyway.
