Atari’s latest merchandising effort is… well, you read the headline. It’s an Atari Beer Glass.
This thing costs $55.12 AUD and can hold up to 600ml of beer… or presumably, other liquids, it would be rather odd if the Atari Beer Glass crashed if you tried to pour cranberry juice into it, but honestly, I’m not spending that kind of money to find out.
Atari does also, I find out, sell alternative Atari-logo adorned drinkware including tumblers, adventure mugs and something called a “Can Shaped Glass”, which is pretty much exactly what you’d think it might be. They’re less pricey than the Atari Beer Mug, but still… no.

It exists. Because of course it does, and I’ll be totally honest here, this kind of thing somewhat annoys me. Yes, I do love me some retro gaming, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t own a few retro-themed tchotchkes scattered around the house. They do make me smile, and I do enjoy a frosty cold one from time to time, but still, that price is just beyond reasonable.
$55.12 for a 600ml beer glass?
That’s ridiculous. Even more ridiculous when you realise that this price does not include shipping.
If anyone I know is shopping for festive gifts for me, I’m going to make it clear: I don’t want this. I am coming to the realisation that it might be a family trait to lightly mock merchandise designed to fleece fans, but still: DO NOT WANT.

Convince me of its worth in the comments below (if you can. That’s if you’re able, not if you Can Shaped Glass, just to be clear. Sheesh.) Also, to clarify for a friend of mine, I’ve made the deliberate decision not to link to where you can buy it. It’s a big Internet, I feel confident in the search capabilities of my readers to find the Atari Beer Glass if they’re so inclined.
In the meantime, if you want some more affordable, sensible and valuable Atari-based gift ideas, there’s always the Atari 50 collection (and its recent Namco DLC) or of course my all-time favourite Atari 2600 game, Ms Pac-Man.

Oh, I have been (for example, this I quite liked (https://alexreviewstech.com/namco-legendary-pack-dlc-for-atari-50-review-pc/), though I did want it to be more substantial) but at the same time, they’ve also slapped the Atari brand onto a lot of not-great-merchandise and (shudder) things like Cryptocurrency.
