Samsung’s hoping that a lot of consumers care a whole lot about the weight of their phones when it comes to its latest flagship, the Galaxy S25 Edge.
The Galaxy S25 Edge was hardly a secret – Samsung hinted at its existence earlier in the year and even somewhat “pre-announced” it a few days before its launch today – but it’s now formally taken the wraps off its latest premium-priced smartphone.
I had the opportunity for a super-brief hands-on with the Galaxy S25 Edge in Sydney, which means my thoughts on it, rather like the phone itself have to necessarily be somewhat thin.
When can I buy the Galaxy S25 Edge in Australia?
If you’re reading this, then pre-orders have opened in Australia. It will be available through retail, all three telco networks and from Samsung’s online store with actual Australian availability from the 30th of May 2025.
How much does the Galaxy S25 Edge cost in Australia?
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge will retail in Australia in two storage variants, with the 256GB model costing $1849 AUD; the higher-spec 512GB model will sell officially for $2049. It will sell in three colours — Titanium Silver, Titanium Jetblack or Titanium IcyBlue, though the IcyBlue variant will be available only through Samsung Australia’s online store.
If you’re particularly keen, Samsung is offering a familiar pre-order bonus that it’s pitched for a number of its flagships, with a storage upgrade for early adopters to the 512GB model for the price of the 256GB.
Or in other words, don’t order the 512GB model as a pre-order, because you could get it for less that way. No word yet on any telco offers, but then I don’t tend to track those kinds of details any more anyway.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge: Alex’s initial impressions
The hands-on time I had with the Galaxy S25 Edge was primarily for the purposes of capturing shots of the device rather than any detailed hands-on testing time, which is pretty much always the way with phones at this stage of their release cycle.
Not really testing time… but stay tuned on that score.
That being said, hands-on is pretty much the exact point of this phone, because this is an impressive bit of engineering that needs to be held in the hand to be appreciated, given its 163g weight.
Grab nearly any other phone – I had a Galaxy S25 Ultra to hand, but most any other phone of this size would do – and you’ll be able to pick the difference easily.
This is impressive engineering, no question. Galaxy S25 Edge on top, Galaxy S25 Ultra below.
It’s also thin, of course, but I’m less convinced that’s going to fuss too many consumers.
This absolutely is a style play – Samsung’s contention is that the market for it is largely the same as those who yearn for the Galaxy Z Flip6.
The Icyblue colour is quite subtle in most lighting.
What strikes me at this early stage is that this style question would have to be quite paramount in your mind for it to make all that much sense at Samsung’s asking price.
At $1849 the Galaxy S25 Edge is more expensive than the Galaxy S25+, and the upper tier 512GB model’s $2049 price really isn’t that far shy of the entry level pricing for the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
It will be interesting to see how performance and especially heat dissipation under heavy load affects it given that it runs with the same high performance Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor as its bigger and thicker siblings – as well as battery life given the much smaller size of its internal power pack.
The other sacrifice that you’re making in return for that astonishingly thin titanium frame is in the cameras, however, because the Galaxy S25 Edge lacks any kind of telephoto lens, as you’d find on any of the other Galaxy S25 phones.
I’m not so sure personally that this is a trade-off that I’d want to make at this price point, but tastes and needs can vary. I’m hoping to get hold of a Galaxy S25 Edge in the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned for my full review.
