I often rail against the reliance on AI or its overhyping as a feature on tech gadgets. This very much sums up why (and I wish I’d written it myself!)
It’s 2025, which means that every single gadget you can buy will all but certainly have some level of AI hype attached to it. I see it a lot in smartphones and laptops and the like, but it’s even down to the level of toothbrushes.
I often comment in my reviews that I don’t put a lot of stock in it, partly because I like supporting the creative side of humanity — and most AI is an environmentally destructive leech on humanity’s creativity — but also because the results it gives are so, so bad.
So when I saw this from the always wonderful Jennifer Dudley-Nicholson on Bluesky, dear reader, I just had to share…
I asked generative AI a simple question: How many Australian prime ministers have there been between 1970 and 2013?
Google Gemini said eight.
ChatGPT said 15.
Siri (using ChatGPT) said 14.
Microsoft Copilot said 12.
The answer, dear reader, is 10.

Yes, I’m aware that journalism that just quotes social media is kind of lazy in itself (and also that Jen, who writes for AP these days isn’t just one of our best tech journalists, but one of Australia’s best journalists, full stop), but I’m quite unwell right now.
Smaller snippet pieces like this might be all you get from me this week. It is what it is.
